Bantwal: Three Nabbed for Murder of Auto Driver Iqbal

Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (MM/RD)

Bantwal, Feb 25: District Crime Investigation Bureau (DCIB) and Bantwal police have been successful in arresting three persons in connection with the murder of Iqbal, an auto rickshaw driver and resident of Bantwal Kelaginapete, on Monday February 25.

The arrested persons are auto rickshaw drivers Nagesh and Nitin  hailing from Benjanapadav and Sharan Pumpwell, co-convener of Dakshina Kannada district Bajrang Dal.

Sources informed that Nagesh played a key role in masterminding the murder of Iqbal.

Iqbal was hacked to death in a rubber farm at Pacchinadka by the accused who hired his auto rickshaw to go to a remote place near Pacchinadka few days ago. Nitin is said to have helped the killers by dropping them from Pachinadka to Pumpwell, Mangalore in his auto rickshaw.

Dharmaiah Poojary, an eyewitness of the crime informed the police that he saw Nagesh and the other accused hacking Iqbal with a machete and fleeing from the spot when he raised the alarm.

There's something really fishy in here. Why on earth would the police leak out details of an eye-witness? It is astonishing to see the police leak out the full name of an eyewitness while only mentioning the first name of the accused. The law and order system is supposed to protect eyewitnesses and punish the guilty, but it looks like the DK police is rather inclined to do the reverse!

It certainly looks like an open invitation by the police to buy or intimidate the eyewitness, so that their 'friends' can have an easy time in court. Let's note that this isn't the first time eye-witnesses are sought to be 'managed', with the active help of politicians and elements in the police force. The Vittla MLA and his gang was acquitted of murder in a similar fashion recently, as witnesses suddenly turned hostile. The pumpwell case accused too, were let off scot free.

The list goes on and on. What's intriguing is the fact that this seems to happen mostly when certain organisations are involved. There was a time when the DK police was known for its impartiality and efficiency. These values seem to have vanished into thin air now.

Once proved, the culprits should be hanged in the same way. I hope there is no any political influence to save the culprits. If they do then such incidences keep continuing. Let the judiciary by hanging the culprits prove ours is a democratic country and not the politicians nor influence people's country. Let us give the justice to all. In the same time, Government should give compensation to the deceased family. If this happens then we can call our country on the path of true democracy.
