SC convicts Sasikala in DA case, sentences her to 4 years in prison

Chennai, Feb 14 (Agencies) : The Supreme Court on Tuesday convicted AIADMK general secretary Sasikala in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case.

The apex court also sentenced Sasikala to a prison term of 4 years.

Now, the AIADMK general secretary cannot become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, or contest elections for 10 years - which includes 4 years of prison term.

Sasikala has also been asked by the Supreme Court to surrender immediately.

A Bench of Justices Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Amitav Roy, who had reserved the verdict on June 7, 2016, gave the verdict in the case on Tuesday.

The Karnataka High Court had last year acquitted the AIADMK general secretary in the case, in which late Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa was also an accused.

Sasikala has been involved in a long and protracted power struggle with acting Chief Minister O Panneerselvam for the CM's post, following Jayalalithaa's death.

Meanwhile, the numbers in Panneerselvam’s camp continue to boost, with Mettur MLA Semmalai backing the CM. OPS now has 9 MLAs in his camp.

Sasikala still holds the majority, with 125 of 134 MLAs still in her camp. She has moved a number of MLAs to Koovathur resort near Chennai, where they have been staying for several days. Sasikala on Monday stayed overnight at the resort.

It is worth noting that the Supreme Court lauded Special Judge John Michael Cunha for his "investigative approach and exhaustive research regarding every piece of evidence in the case".

Also on the second legal question on how private citizens like Sasikala can be prosecuted for public corruption, the Supreme Court referred to Judge Cunha's conclusion.

"The trial court correctly held in this matter that private individuals can be prosecuted on the ground that they had abetted the act of criminal misconduct falling under Section 13 (1) (e) of the 1988 Act," the Supreme Court said.

Congratulations Justice John Michael Cunha. Your judgement will be a land mark judgement against corruption.

Late Jayalalitha was knows as IRON LADY generally but Sasikala bent and cut her so easily so Sasikala must be called as DIAMOND LADY.
Came as a domestic servant and almost reached the top level within 60 days. Only the final step left towards the seat of CM of Tamilnadu. So Sad

anyway dreams remain in dreams,,,,, Let the Government create a new post at the jail among the prisnors. Let she enjoy the power of CM sitting inside jail. Her bank balance will defanately helps her.

She may get admitted to Prathap Reddy's Appolo soon and doctors from UK will come down to confirm her sickness.

Sasikal had a power to bring down the doctor just to justify her words.

As long as we comment on the basis of our party affliation and religion, we should not expect any developement.
We some some kind of comments if a certain party fellows are convicted and a different type of comments if its the party we like. If we do this way, then forget about progress.
Be impartial in these issues and then see the change.

When Judge John Michael D'Cunha convicted Jayalalitha and Co., in March 2014, the case was handled by Kumaraswamy, when it came to appeal in the Karnataka High Court and all were acquitted on applying simple and ridiculous mathematics. Now from the prison Sasikala can go through the maths calculated by Kumaraswamy and wonder how he got it all wrong. Judge D'Cunha must have the satisfaction that he was after all not that dumb.

Central government played vital role in this issue. The first verdict from our Justice Michel Di' Cunha (Mickey our pet name) was upheld. BJP played dirty game in T.Nadu episode. Governor acting behest of BJP. However people of Tamilnadu accepted J Jayalalitha as their leader perhaps she managed the state very well. I liked the unity of Tamil people on Jallikattu issue all section of the society joined for their right commendable. Our Karnataka fractured in core issues like Mahadayi, Kaveri water issues.
The basic reason is the dirty politics of congress, BJP and JDS just fishing in troubled water.
JDS state president yesterday declared his support to Yettinahole project in Mangalore. If he visits Kolar tomorrow he will support that project in their favour. Drama in our state that 13000 crore project filled their pocket even kolar getting water or not their mission of making money completed.

Last week in IT raid one minister was caught in Karnataka and found assets more than 100 cores. This man was selling Bricks before joining politics. Sasikala was selling video tapes and she is the owner of more than 100 cores..... Yeddy got one acre land from his father and after joining politics he is owner of more 100 acre land..... more examples are available from all other politicians. Whey can't they put their case to this judge who gave good punishment to corrupt???? Why their supporters are supporting them when they know their leaders are corrupt????? Don't see the religion, caste and creed.... Just support to punish the criminal and corrupt than only India will shine. Jai ho.
