Udupi: Various competitions for Konkani students organized

Udupi, Feb 19: Konkani Sangatan of the district comprising 'Kala', 'Sahitya' and 'Sanskriti', conducted various competitions here recently, at the Don Bosco Hall.  The competition was for the  students of sixth standard who study Konkani as third language.
 
Prof. Vincent Alva, member of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy (KKSA) inaugurated the competition. On the occasion prof Alva congratulated the students and their parents for taking up Konkani as a third language, in their academic years.
 
Competitions were held in story telling, letter writing and also a Konkani Quiz was organized. Alphonse D Costa, Lidwin Pinto, Joseph Fernandes Udupi, Clotilda Fernandes, Veronica Saldanha were the judges. Dr Gerald Pinto conducted the quiz.

 

Rev.  Fr Vishal Lobo Udupi parish and Edwin D Souza principal, St Philomena P U College, Puttur were the guests of honour. The schools which participated in the competitions were St Francis Eng. school, Mudarangady, Milagres Eng. school, Kallianpur, Marynol school, Barkur, St Francis Udyavar, St Lourdes Kanajar, St Philomena Kemmannu, St Cicily’s Udupi and St Lawrence Belle.


 
The winners of the competitions in different categories are as follows: 
 
Story Telling:

First: Jane Mathias Mudarangadi

Second: Melisha Fernandes St Francis, Udyavar 

Third: Ruth D'Silva  Milagres, Kallianpur
 
Letter writing:

First: Carol Ferrao Milagres, Kallianpur

Second: Akshitha Sonia Lobo, Barkur 

Third: Lavita Sequeira St Lourdes, Kanajar.

Konkani Quiz:

First: Alita Anna Fernandes and Renisha Dias  Barkur

Second: Flaksan D Silva and Jeevan D Souza, Kanajar 

Third: Arlin Mendonca and Carol Almeida,  Mudaragadi. 

Dr Gerald Pinto, president of the KKSA presided. Alphonse D Costa and Lidwin  Pinto compered the programme. Louis D Almeida, secretary proposed the vote of thanks. The members of the executive committee Anita Monis, Ignatius Monis, Walter Cyril Pinto, Valerian Fernandes, Thomas Carnelio co-compered.
 
Owners of Raknno and Kajulo, Amcho Sandesh - Konkani magazines and Edwin D Souza were the sponsors for the prizes. All the participants were given consolation prizes.
