Two sentenced to life in Gurugram for acid attack on woman

Gurugram, Feb 8 (IANS): A court here on Wednesday sentenced two men to life for throwing acid on a woman in this Haryana industrial hub in 2014.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Vivek Singhal awarded life imprisonment to Raja and his accomplice Azad, who attacked 27-year-old Suman in her house here on December 15, 2014, after she rebuffed Raja's romantic advances.

A nine-year-old daughter of the victim was also injured in the acid attack.

The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh each on the two attackers.

An NGO, 'Faristay', fought the case for the victim free of cost.

Prosecution lawyers Anju Rawat Negi and Kulbhusan Bhardwaj told IANS that the court held Raja and Azad guilty and acquitted the third accused, Aarif, due to lack of evidence on January 30.

The court has directed the Jail Superintendent that 60 per cent income of Raja and Azad during the jail term should be handed over to the victim.
