'Finally earthquake occurred', PM Modi takes jibe at Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, Feb 7 (TNN): Hitting back at Congress vice-president over his 'earthquake' remark, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told Parliament that the earthquake finally took place - the mother Earth was likely angered.

Replying to the discussion on motion of thanks to President Pranab Mukherjee's address, Modi said, "Finally earthquake occurred. Central government is in touch with state the government."

Lashing out at Rahul Gandhi over his 'scam' remark, Modi asked, "How can someone see 'seva' or any positive virtue in the word 'scam'.

PM comments come hours after earthquake of magnitude 5.8 shook northern India on Monday night, with tremors felt across Uttarakhand, Delhi and adjoining areas, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana.

On December 9 last year, Rahul Gandhi had said that his speech on demonetisation - if he's allowed to speak in the Lok Sabha - has the potential to cause an "earthquake."

"The government is running from debate. If they allow me to speak then you will see what an earthquake will come," the Congress vice-president had said.

PM Modi also attacked the Congress over the role of "one family" in the freedom struggle and said they had neglected the contribution of others.

"There are many people like me who couldn't die for the nation during the freedom struggle but we are living for India and serving India," Modi said during a debate on Motion of Thanks to the President's address.

"Somewhere on the way, 'Jan Shakti' (people power) was forgotten and we don't accept this," he said.

"I never heard them speak about the role of Chandrasekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh and many other freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the country," Modi said.

"They think the country got independence only due to one family," Modi said in an apparent attack on the Nehru dynasty.

He said India had to be taken to newer heights. "Faith in Jan Shakti will give results."

RG boastfully likened his speech to an earthquake if debate is held in Parliament. While this was over two months ago, it is highly unwarranted for the PM to use the same word immediately in the aftermath of the strong tremors felt in the country which can amount to a mockery of the quake affected people.

On Jan. 26, 2001, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake shook the state of Gujarat, killing 20,000 people and toppling around 339,000 homes.
On the whole, reconstruction works that followed the 2001 earthquake in Gujarat have been presented as a success. Rajat Gupta co-founded the American India Foundation in 2001.“Gupta and AIF co-founders President Bill Clinton, former vice chair of Citigroup Victor Menezes, venture capitalist Lata Krishnan, and former Citibank senior executive Pradeep Kashyap raised more than $1 billion to assist victims of the earthquake,” . Later Clinton foundation found in irregularities and over exploiting it for insider trading using earthquake funds.
A UK report, released in London, has claimed that under the cloak of humanitarian charity, massive donations from the British public were used to fund Sangh Parivar organisations.
The report, launched just before the second anniversary of the Gujarat carnage, has been prepared by Awaaz - South Asia Watch Ltd, a London-based network.
The report, titled 'In Bad Faith? British Charity and Hindu Extremism', says RSS branches in the UK have been raising large amounts of money in the name of charity for natural disasters like the Gujarat earthquake and the Orissa supercyclone. "Virtually all the money raised went to Sangh Parivar groups, including groups that have incited anti-minority violence", .

Natural disaster came as blessing for BJP which exploited nearly Rs300 crores for political purposes aftermath of 2001 earthquake. Rahul Gandhi shouldn't have succeeded in parliament. But BJP did it in 2004 post Godhra riots making one the largest homeless post independence of India which left trails of death and destruction.

I remember our former PM A.B. Vajapayeeji,(ABV) who would use every word so cautiously, enhanced the image of PMO, in the whole world including in Pakistan who was very hostile to him and Pakistan.
Pakistan President Musharaf, who once refused to salute ABV saying that, he is a Hindu Bigot; but after some time had to regret and eat up his words, when realized that ABV was a great human, having immense knowledge, master orator, administrator and above all a man of peace! He mastered the skills to overcome ego.
He was an Architect who knew to build bridges across all political parties.
See today, where are we heading? Sad, we are steadily loosing out people like ABV, APJ Kalam etc.

It is unbelievable. What a shame that we have a leader with elementary school children's brain. Even during natural disaster joking like kids. It is unfortunate that we still have blind Bhakts to clap at the stupid comments of stupid leader.

It's a politics of revenge. Not meant for seasoned , stately, educated and cultured politicians. And definitely it brings down the honour and the respect of the Office of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister should rise above these petty, childish games.
Making such silly, mocking remarks while replying to the discussion on motion of thanks to President Pranab Mukherjee's address lowers the dignity of the Office of the Prime Minister. It's disgusting to see that we have such low and mean and narrow mindied persons holding such responsible and respectable office. When will our Politicians learn to uphold the honour of our Nation?

Noone can disagree with MODI on this one. Indeed the earthquake has happened with demonitisation. There are 1000's poor Indians who lost their lives standing in ATM Q's to get their hard earned money. There are millions who lost jobs, because of demonitisation. The countries growth is badly affected.

Corrupt are not bothered. Multi-crore weddings 500cr, 100cr, 50cr still happening with pompus of all kind. Everyone knows from where they got their money from. Corrupt are enjoying the fame and name, roayally.

By the way, where is the black money? RBI was supposed to gain 3Lakh crore? Instead, as all know India knows that RBI is loosing 15,000crore for printing new notes.

Dr Saab .... you put it aptly the fact beyond scope for second best opinion..,

Let me add on to say the least that...., the content & intent of the speech itself prove that no one in BJP is immune to Gandhi phobia....., after all the brand Gandhi is a gift of one time parivar mentored "GODSE's" ... to Hindustan..,

B'cause of one insane act by GODSE the term "Gandhi", went deep inside the DNA of Hindustani's for generations and more to come..., which result in Hindustan's impeccable visionary Nehruvian era triump for better part of Hindustan's post independence era...,

Though i may be wrong.., my views may not be immune to intolerant response ...., it doesn't mean that i may not go wrong..,
