Mangalore, Feb 16: Annual state level conference on ‘Development of Coastal Karnataka: Possibilities and Problems’ organized by Mangalore University economics association was inaugurated at St Aloysius College auditorium here on Saturday, February 16.
M Veerappa Moily, chairman of union Administrative Reforms Commission, inaugurated the conference and stressed the need for overall development of coastal part of the state. 'You have a paradise before you. If you do not nurture humanity, the outcome will be universal death,' he cautioned.
He also suggested not to be complacent with mere solutions, but advised to go beyond solutions. The people of coastal region should explore opportunities and tap their potentials. One should realize that every child and every inch of coastal region is precious. One should prepare a mindset in this regard, he said.
Dr G V Joshi, professor of economics in Mangalore University, delivered the keynote address and Fr Swebert D’Silva, principal of the college, presided over the function. Dr Norbert Lobo, secretary of the association was present on the dais.
Text books authored by Prabhakar Shishila and T K Mohan were released on the occasion. Retired economics lecturers and achievers in the field of economics were felicitated.
