B'lore: Heggade, 43 Others to Get Lalita Kala Academy Awards

Bangalore, Feb 15: Among the noted personalities nominated for this year's state Lalita Kala Academy awards is Dharmadhikari of Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala D Veerendra Heggade. Well-known cricketer Rahul Dravid's mother Pushpa Dravid and painters G S Vasudev and Yusuf Arakkal are also amongst the 44 famous persons selected for the annual KLKA awards this year.

This information was furnished by the academy chairman V T Kalae and registrar V N Mallikarjuna Swamy while addressing media persons here on Wednesday, February 13. The award presentation ceremony would be held in Dharmasthala on February 23. The honorary award carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and the annual awards Rs 5,000, he added.  

While Veerendra Heggade has been selected for the special patron award, senior artistes like Davangere's Mallikarjuna Jadhav, Bangalore's J M S Mani and Belgaum's S Apparao Kadapurakara Nippani have been selected for the annual honarary award. The special invitee award has been bagged by Gadag's Ashok Akki and Mumbai's Gopal Subhedar for holding art exhibitions in 2007.

The academy has also selected 28 persons for the Suvarna Karnataka awards which covers the fine arts category. The awardees for this special Suvarna Karnataka honours include S G Vasudev, J S Khande Rao, N Marishamachar, Yusuf Arrakal, C S Krishna Setty, M H Krishnaiah and G Y Hublikar.

Those to be conferred the Suvarna Karnataka honours include S Dhanalakshmi, S N Chandrashekhar, C Chandrashekhar, Pushpa Dravid, K N Ramachandran, A L Narasimhan (Bangalore), V J Andani, M B Lohara, M R Balikai, Arya Achar, Gayatri Desai, K R Subbanna, Bheemarao Murugod, G L N Simha, Peter Louis, Ramesh Rao, M Basavaiah, B K Hiremath, V G Hire Goudar, Vijay Sindhur and Gopal Subhedar.

The winners of the painting awards are Parveen Kumar (oil painting), G K Ramesh Babu (graphics), Jayaram P S (acrylic), Shivananad Badiger (acrylic), N Somesh (acrylic), H S Manjunath (acrylic), H V Mantatti (drawing), Raghavendra H Patil (acrylic), Asharani V Nadoni (mixed medium) and C D Jattannanavar (oil painting).
