Mangalore: Varsity to Award Doctorates to Moily, Padukone

Mangalore, Feb 15: The 26th annual convocation ceremony of Mangalore University will be held on Saturday February 16, at the science block quadrangle in the University premises, informed Prof K V Kaveriappa, vice-chancellor of Mangalore University at a press conference held at University College here on Thursday February 14.

He further said that five veterans will be conferred with honorary doctorates in various fields. Altogether,  72 doctorates and 127 ranks in various disciplines will be awarded on the occasion, he added.

When enquired on awarding honorary doctorates, the vice-chancellor stated that M Veerappa Moily, chairman of union Administrative Reforms Commission (administration and literature), Prakash Padukone (sports and games), Dr P Selvy Das (education and administration), Sara Aboobakar (literature) and G Shankar (social work) will be awarded honorary doctorates during the ceremony which will be presided over by governor Rameshwar Thakur. Prof Sukhdeo Thorat, chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) will deliver the convocation address, he added. 

The formal function will be followed by cultural programmes, he informed.

Dr K Surendra Naik, registrar, Prof K V Nagaraj of the journalism department, Prof Yedipadittaya of the department of commerce and others were present at the press conference.
