Mangalore, Feb 14: The city's Kadri Temple was a silent bee-hive of activity in the early hours of Wednesday, February 13 as nearly 150 people from different walks of life gathered together to perform a mass 'Suryanamaskara'.

On the occasion of 'Rathasapthami,' performing Suryanamaskara is widely believed by Hindus as being very auspicious as the sun begins its journey on Arjuna's chariot. To commemorate the occasion, Kalkura foundation in association with Bangalore-based Sri Patanjali Yoga Shikshana Samithi organized Suryanamaskara at the temple premises from 6 am to 7.20 am.

The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, after which demonstrations of various yoga postures of 'Suryanamaskara' began. Kalkura foundation Yoga teacher Sudhakar Shetty and his assistants helped the participants learn the nuances of Suryanamaskara. The widespread belief of the devouts is that it not only invokes the blessings of the Sun god, but is also beneficial to all irrespective of age or religion.

The chief guests on the occasion were president of Kalkura Foundation Pradeep Kalkura, Kadri Temple manager Ningayaa and Pathanjali Yogakendra director Narayan Shetty.
