BJP blames Manmohan over Vijay Mallya's letters on bank loans

New Delhi, Jan 30 (PTI): In a bid to corner Congress ahead of the Budget session, BJP today launched a fresh attack on it over the Vijay Mallya case, alleging the "corrupt hands" which helped him get bank loans belonged to the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram.

The party quoted from purported letters written by businessman Mallya to Singh in which he sought his intervention and subsequent to which his now-defunct Kingfisher Airline received loans.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra asked Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her deputy Rahul Gandhi to explain at whose behest the defaulting company got loans.

In a press conference, he dragged the Congress leadership into the row, alleging that the then Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Pulok Chatterjee would "snatch files" from Singh to take it to 10 Janpath, Sonia Gandhi's residence.

"The hands which pulled the strings to ensure that Mallya received loans are visible now. It belonged to Chidambaram and Singh.

"Did the hands of 10 Janpath also pull the string? Sonia and Rahul Gandhi should come out in public to say at whose behest the loans were sanctioned to Kingfisher Airline," he said.

"It was after one such letter Mallya had written to Singh on November 14, 2011 that the Prime Minister told the media that 'we have to find ways to get Kingfisher out of trouble'," Patra said.

In another letter, he sought Singh's intervention to get funds from banks released immediately, the BJP leader claimed.

In one of the letters, Mallya said he was very "relieved" and "pleased", apparently referring to developments in the interim, according to Patra.

A top PMO official had spoken to ministries concerned following his letter to Singh and Mallya had mentioned it, he said.

Patra cited another letter the absconding liquor baron allegedly wrote to Chidambaram in March 2013, seeking his intervention to get NOC from the SBI, which headed the consortium of banks which had given unrecovered loans to the airline, and its subsidiaries as his liquor company was in talks with Diageo for a deal.

Asked about Mallya's defence, Patra said they will not listen to a defaulter and he should come back if he wanted to be heard.

We want an explanation on whose behest the defaulting company owner left or ran away from the country? Another question why it is taking so long to put people behind bars who are corrupted who have done fraud? during election there were lots of promises but nothing has been done. Guys you'll should learn from Donald Trump.

Let's accept MMS was wrong in the case of Vijay Mallya's letters on bank loans.
But Mallya was well within India. He and MMS should have been nailed.
Why did Modi Govt let Vijay Mallya flee the country?

Whatever BJP says, MMS was not doing any wrong. The problem with MMS was he had no control on the government. all decisions being taken by Sonia and all the other UPA partners like DMK.
Now he is the fall guy.

You must have been sitting in a cave last year, now asking for a proof. Just Google, Modi's trip to Australia with SBI Management or Adani Iron Ore Project.

Bakhts have different standard when it comes to their leaders. Asking for proof as it suits them and no proof needed for BJP related corruption.

Jumla Party can only blame, blame and only blame others.

He became a defaulter in 2016 not earlier. Why he was let to run, when he was detained in airport. BJP's hand in glove is exposed when it confidentially pleaded with UK Govt to give Chota Modi, residency there. He was a proclaimed defaulter then. hese are facts, not illusions.

This kind of drama only suits BJP and RSS. People realise it now very clearly after demonitisation. Media too plays its part supressing the truth.

Soon BJP will broker a deal with Gali Janaardhan Reddy and help him to leave the country like Lalit Modi like Vijaya Mallya. It is better to help them leave the country against a huge amount than keeping them in India without any gain rather when the court case is filed against them BJP will be exposed and defamed. Congress on the other did nothing like this rather they helped the falling business to revive and did not help the person to leave country and setting free from legal consequences.

BJP has failed in the several promises and 2014 election manifesto communicated to common man and there are no accomplishments to update the public.

Such expose is just to divert attention from issues and BJP failures. This distraction will hurt BJP and it image as a Party of blame others for its failures.

Even if MMS had done what is stated, initiate legal process in place of failure to prevent Mallya leaving India and bring him back as promised.
