M'lore: Besant Women’s College to hold Two-day National Seminar

Mangalore, Feb 13: Besant Women’s College in association with Kannada Development Authority and district chapter of Kannada Sahitya Parishat will organize a UGC-sponsored national seminar on ‘Valu- Based Education and Literature’ on Thursday February 14 and Friday February 15.

The seminar will be inaugurated by Dr Rajendra Chenni, chairman of department of English, Kuvempu University, Shimoga. Prof G K Govinda Rao, eminent writer from Bangalore, will deliver the keynote address. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of district chapter Kannada Sahitya Parishat will be the guest of honour and Udupi Jagadish Shenoy, president of Women’s National Education Society will preside over the function.

The seminar will focus on the four language English, Kannada, Hindi and Sanskrit.

In the first technical session Dr Rajendra Chenni, the resource person will present a paper on imparting Values through literature in the Era of Globalization; lead paper presentation will be done by Dr Kris Fresonke, Vice-consul of U S Consulate General Chennai. The session will be moderated by Parinitha Punja of department of English Mangalore University. The afternoon session will begin with poetry session, presentation of self composed poems by delegates under the chairmanship of Dr Dundiraj, eminent Kannada poet.

In the next technical session Dr Lingadevaru Halemane will present a paper on ‘Propagation of Values in Kannada Literature’. The session will be moderated by Dr Pradekallu Vishnu Bhat and will be chaired by Dr Chinappa Gowda, professor of Kannada, Mangalore University.

The third technical session will be held on February 15 in which Dr Nirmala Maurya of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, Chennai will present a paper on ‘Literature and Society’. Dr Jayanthi Prasad Nautiala, chief manager of O L Division at Corporation Bank head office, Mangalore will moderate the session. In the following session Dr Mahabalsehwar Rao will moderate the paper presentation by delegates.

For fourth session resource person will be Vidwan Gangadhar V Bhat, professor of Sanskrit, Maharaja Sanskrit college Mysore will present a paper on Education for life through Literature’. Dr G N Bhat will moderate the session.

At the end Dr M V Kamath, honorary director of MIC will deliver the valedictory address. Prof Sa Shi Marulaiya will be the guest of honour while Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy will preside over the function.

The Objective of the National Seminar is to discuss the effected of globalization on the moral fabric of the Society, to highlight the relationship between life and literature, to create awareness regarding the possibilities of using literary works to propagate moral and ethical values, to recommend an action plan to incorporate value based literary works as part of the syllabus.
