Russia Imposes Temporary Ban on Indian Agri Exports

New Delhi, Feb 8: Russia has temporarily suspended import of agricultural products from India after a consignment recently was found to contain beetles.

Capra beetles were found in a consignment of sesame, Russian officials said on Thursday.

In view of detection of the beetles, Russians have raised questions, particularly over fumigation aspects, of the consignments bound for that country.

A delegation will come here soon to discuss the issue, particularly as to how to ensure that the consignments are properly fumigated, the officials said.

However, exports of tea and coffee from India are allowed through three Russian ports, including St Petersburg, where special screening mechanisms are in place, they said, denying that these products were banned by Russia.
