Children hit streets against police officer's transfer

Bhopal, Jan 15 (IANS): Hundreds of children hit the streets in Katni town in Madhya Pradesh to protest the transfer of a police officer who unearthed a Hawala scam.

The protests on Sunday, which continued for the sixth day, were staged to demand Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Tiwari's posting back in Katni.

Tiwari was transferred on Monday after the Rs 500-crore Hawala scam came to light. He has been transferred to Chhindwara and replaced by Sashikant Shukla.

On Saturday, 15 protesters were arrested.

The children, who gathered on the streets on Sunday, held placards like: "We want Gaurav Sir back".

Interestingly, the rally was not being led by any youths. The police later counselled the children and sent them home.

Additional Superintendent of Police Pramod Sonkar said he had no information on the children's rally.
