Mangalore: Dalit Sangharsha Samiti holds Protest Rally

Mangalore, Jan 28: Dakshina Kannada unit of Karnataka Dalit Sangarsha Samiti, held massive protest rally from Light House Hill to district headquarter of Deputy Commissioner on Monday January 28, urging the district administration to suspend Mariyappa Lingannavar, chief executive officer of Ullal town municipality, alleging that Mariyappa had insulted Dr Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution and crusader of rights of Dalit. 

It was alleged that Mariyappa had abused Dr Ambedkar when the people's’ representatives along with local Dalit leaders approached him for seeking information.  He had ridiculed the locals that he has not come across such rogues in his service which was disgusting and inhumane.  The office-bearers of Dalit Sangarsha Samiti who urged the Ullal sub inspector, in order to arrest Mariyappa have gone in deaf ears.  Besides, there are several cases of injustices to Dalits in other parts of Dakshina Kannada.

Protest rally was attended by AP Anand, district chief convener, Prakash Byadarahalli, Rohitaksha K, state conveners, Sundar Master, Mysore division convener, Sundar Gujjarabettu, Udupi district chief convener, Mahalinga K, district deputy chief convener, Varan, Hasan district convener, Anita, district women federation chief convener, Ramesh Kotian, district assist chief convener, Rohit Ullal, Ambedkarism Committee president, Sanjeev R, Beltangady taluk chief convener, Nagesh T, Mangalore taluk chief convener, Guruvappa, Puttur taluk chief convener, Krishnappa, Bantwal taluk chief convener, Sudhakar Tand several members of Dalit Sangarsha Samiti.
