Mangalore: Young Magicians Cast Spell on City with Amazing Tricks

Mangalore, Jan 28: A unique platform for youngsters and children from across the state presented itself in the form of 'Kankat-2008,' a state-level magicians' conference held on Sunday, January 27 at the Shri Gorakshanatha auditorium here. It was indeed a wonderful opportunity for exhibiting talent, especially to prove one's mettle in the art of magic.  

Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Trust inaugurated the conference. Also present on the occasion were well-known magicians Uday Jadoogar, K S Ramesh, Mysore Nagesh, Kampa Gopinath Rao, MMC president Swarna Sunder and programme convener Kudroli Ganesh.  

Since this was a platform for young budding talented magicians to showcase their talent, there were children coming from different parts of the state displaying their amazing skills in front of a very appreciate audience, who were completely mesmerised. The audience also comprised of magicians from various states and even abroad.  

As part of the programme there was a competition on 'conjuring junior' for children below 14 years. Similar competition was held under two different categories 'conjuring senior' and 'close up'. In all seven children duly selected after elimination from across the state participated in the competition. Skill, style and the way the performer entertains the audience were the criteria for the judging the winner.

Karun Krishna and R Likithesh both from Bangalore won the first place and second place in the 'conjuring junior' category respectively. In the 'close up jadoo' category  Karun Krishna again won the first prize while the second prize in this category was bagged by Munawar Pasha from the city. Mahesh, again from the city won the first place in the 'conjuring senior' category while Hegde Jadoogar bagged the second position.  

A workshop was organized on the occasion as part of the programme. Famous magicians Prahlad Acharya, Pradeep Soori and Vasudev Bhat Kottor, all gave their valuable inputs on how to improve the quality of magic at the workshop here. Later at Kadri park a magnificient show was presented by prominent magicians including Kudroli Ganesh, Prahlad Acharya, Sathish Hemmadi, Shrivatsa Bellary and Indushri Bangalore.
