Haryana to honour girls, women on Republic Day

Chandigarh, Dec 16 (IANS): The Haryana government on Friday said it will honour visually impaired girls and women on Republic Day.

"During the Republic Day functions in all educational institutions, villages and cities, the honour of unfurling the national flag as chief guest will be bestowed upon a visually impaired woman or girl," a spokesman said here.

A notice has been issued in this regard by the Chief Secretary to all Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners in the state.

In case no visually impaired woman or girl is available, the chief guest would be a woman or girl resident of the village or city and who has more than 70 per cent disability.

Haryana has the worst sex ratio among all states at 879 females per 1,000 males.

With a slew of measures, the sex ratio, as per the government's latest claims, has improved to 904.
