Mangalore: Consumer Finds Cockroach in Sachet

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (AF)

Mangalore, Jan 21: The hygienic standards maintained by the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers' Union Ltd (DKMUL) has come under the scanner with Abul Hameed, a consumer claiming to find a cockroach in a half-litre milk satchet.

However, DKMUL president Diwakar Shetty refuted the charges and said on Sunday January 20 that the DKMUL uses sophisticated technology for packing and that there was no way any foreign body could enter the sachet.

Shetty also said that since Hameed had not opened the sachet and had also refused to hand it over to DKMUL, it was not possible to come to a conclusion.

According to reports, DKMUL officials who visited Hameed's house in Bunder here offered a compensation in return for the sachet but Hameed refused their pleas and filed a complaint with the police.

Hameed had kept the sachet dated Saturday January 12 in his refrigerator, before showing it to deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao a week later on Saturday January 19. The satchet was purchased from a DKMUL outlet at Mission Street here.

Mr. Shetty says foreign body can not enter the packet. Could it then be an Indian body ( of a cockroach)?
