Mangalore: Devadiga Sports Meet – ‘08 Inaugurated

Mangalore, Jan 20: One day ‘Devadiga Sports Meet – ‘08’, organized in the aegis of Karnataka Devadigas’ Association and Devadiga Youth Association, was inaugurated on Sunday, January 20, at Mangala stadium, located near Lady Hill, in the city.

“There is one to one relationship between sports and life. Consistency and hard-work are essential to achieve well defined goal”, said Dr K Devaraj, principal of SDM College for Business Management, during the inaugural of sports meet.

The focus should be laid on tenacity and gumption, in order to display talents in sports. Well defined goal would be essential to achieve milestones in life. Participation in sports would be significant in this regard. Hence, everyone should show interest in participating in sports and to make benefits related to it, he added.

Dr KV Devadiga, city's one of veteran neurological surgeon, presided over the sports meet. Dr Manjula Ullal, gynecologist, Ullal Nursing Home and Prakash Sherigar, proprietor of Avinash Mosaic Industries were chief guests, present at the occasion.

“Devadiga community belongs to backward class, the sports meet has been held to bring all the families of community onto main stream. The primary aim is to bring the hidden talent in the community members to the fore. The event provides a platform where members of the community come together and get to know each other”, the organizers confirmed while speaking to daijiworld.com.

The sports meet was conducted in three categories; junior, senior and aged. About one thousand members participated in the sports meet.

Office bearers of both the Associations were also present on the occasion. The winners will be presented during the ‘Talents Day’ celebrations which would be held at the end of the February 2008.
