Mangalore: District Admin to Embark on Child Census from Jan 21

Mangalore, Jan 19: Dakshina Kannada district administration would take up child census from Monday January 21 and complete it on Wednesday January 23, stated Chame Gowda, administrative officer at the office of Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI), at a press conference held at ZP office here on Friday, January 18. 

Child census is conducted much ahead of the commencing of every academic year, in order to provide data to the 'Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’ (Education for All campaign) and thus achieve the universalizing of education. The census would collect the data of children aged below 13 years, he added while explaining the aim of the census. 

Speaking on the guidelines of the census, he added that census should be conducted at least for three days at public places, hotels, industrial area, slums and other places. Complete information should be obtained of children who are below the age of 13 years, data of child labourers and street children should be collected. 

He urged the general public to cooperate when the designated officials come to their door steps and restrain from providing false information. Further, he urged to provide information even on dropouts. 

Shantharaju, principal of College of teacher education, Geetha K, district assistant project coordinator, Philomena Lobo, DDPI (Development) and others were present at the press meet.
