Mangalore: Kumble Sunder Rao to be Felicitated on Jan 19

Mangalore, Jan 17: Renowned Yakshagana artiste Kumble Sunder Rao will be felicitated by Chowta Pratishtana at Town Hall here on Saturday January 19 in recognition of his contribution to the field of Yakshagana.

Speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday January 16, Pratishtana president D K Chowta informed that Rao will be feted by Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade. Rao will also be conferred the title of ‘Yakshanugrahi’ by Dr Heggade.

The programme will be inaugurated by Karnataka Open University, Mysore vice-chancellor Prof B A Vivek Rai. Endowment commissioner T Shyam Bhat will preside.

Karnataka Yakshagana and Janapada Academy president Keremane Shambu Hegde will release ‘Sundara Kanda’ a biography of Rao's life a Yakshagana artiste edited by litterateur Prof Amruth Someshwar, Chowta said.

He further informed that ‘Karnabhedana Talamaddale' will be held on the same day at 2.30 pm in which Kumble Sundar Rao, M Prabhakar Joshi, Mudambailu Gopalkrishna Shastry and Uduvekodi Subbappaiah will take part.

Among those present were Prof Amruth Someshwara and others.
