Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (KD/SM)

Mangalore, Jan 14: Division of Minimal Access Surgery (MAS) was inaugurated by former minister Nagaraj Shetty at KMC hospital here on Saturday January 12.

MAS are a method of surgery conducted without making large cuts on the body. Instead, the surgical instruments are passed through ‘key-hole or ‘ports’ made in the abdomen.

The prominent advantage of the key-hole surgery is that the post-operation pain will be reduced as well as stay at hospitals. The other benefit is that it leaves a little scar and the patients can get back to normal life within 3 to 4 days of operation.

MAS can be effectively used for many general surgery procedures including common ones like piles, hernia repair, gallbladder removal and appendicectomy.

Associate dean Dr M V Prabhu presided over. HoD Surgeon Dr Thangam Vergese and COO Dr Sunil Deshpande were present.
