Mangalore, Jan 8: Inter-school and inter-collegiate competitions were held at Town Hall to mark the silver jubilee celebration of city-based Kerala Samajam here on Monday, January 7.

A total of 110 students from city's 10 schools and 20 colleges participated in the event. Competitions were held in five categories - Bharatha Natyam, Mohiniyattam (classical dance form of Kerala), drawing competition and film-based dance performance. The prizes will be awarded to the winners during the formal function of silver jubilee celebrations.

Though the programme was organised by the Kerala Samajam, the participating teams performed cultural dances adopted in various languages; hence it was not an exclusive Malayalam programme, added Vasudevan K, secretary and Murali H, committee member of the Samajam, while speaking to Daijiworld.

Kerala Samajam has also planned preparing a blood donors' list to help patients and also plans to host a marathon in the city as part of charity work, they added when asked about the social service it renders.

The programme was witnessed by as many as 800 participants. The Samajam has about 2000 members.
