Defence ministry approves projects worth Rs 82,000 cr

IAF to buy 83 Tejas aircraft for Rs 50000 crore

New Delhi, Nov 8 (DHNS): The defence ministry on Monday cleared projects worth Rs 82,000 crore, including the purchase of 83 advanced and more potent versions of the indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF).

The Defence Acquisition Council headed by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar gave its go-head to the IAF’s initial plan to purchase 83 Tejas Mark 1A aircraft at a cost of Rs 50,025 crore, ministry sources said.

The Acceptance of Necessity (AON) approval for the Tejas fighter jets would be in addition to the 40 Tejas already ordered by the IAF, of which the first 20 jets would be in the initial operational clearance (IOC) configuration and another 20 aircraft in the final operational clearance (FOC) configuration. The LCA Tejas is yet to receive its FOC certification.

In July, the IAF formed its first Tejas LCA squadron to accept the fighter jets manufactured by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The first two aircraft in the 45 Squadron are of the IOC configuration, granted in December 2013.

In the FOC configuration, the aircraft would incorporate Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles and better stand-off weapons and air-to-air refueling capability.

The LCA Mark-1A, on the other hand, would have new generation Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar with simultaneous air-to-air and air-to-ground capability, missile warning system, an integrated advanced electronic warfare suite, and advanced versions of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons and maintainability improvements.

The council has also approved the purchase of 15 Light Combat Aircraft being manufactured by HAL for the army and the air force for a tentative cost of about Rs 2,911 crore. Out of these 15 gunships, 10 would be for the IAF and the rest for the army. The council also gave its stamp of approval on an order to acquire 464 Russian origin T90 tanks from the Ordnance Factory Board for Rs 13,448 crore, besides procurement of 598 mini UAVs at a cost of Rs 1,100 crore.

This for the Modi Bhakt who blame past 60 years of Congress ruling.

Lets take a look at what Nehru did post independence in terms of defense. Nehru significantly increased military spending and bought equipment and aircraft from multiple countries - UK, USA, France and USSR. Only naive observers of the defense landscape accuse Nehru of being "soft" on defense. The spending increased from 0.3% of GDP to 2% after Nehru's first term. This is comparable to the defense budgets of today, which is typically in the range of 2-3% of GDP.

Nehru made sure that defense deals were sourced from multiple countries and oversaw them personally:
    Airforce:
230 Vampire Aricraft manufactured under license from UK
    104 Toofani Aricraft from France
    182 Hunters from UK
    80 Canberras from UK
    110 Mysteres from France
    55 Fairchild Packets from USA
    26 Mi-4 from USSR
    Navy:
    3 R calss destroyers
    3 hunt class destroyers
    2 cruisers
    3 Leopard class frigates
    3 Blackwood frigates
1 Aircraft carrier (which BTW is the carrier India used in the '71 war)
    Army:
    180 Sherman tanks from USA
    300 Centurion tanks from UK
    160 AMX tanks from France
Nehru was the best spender on defense and bought equipment from the widest variety of sources. Period.

Transfer of technology is one of the key to development of nation. But BJP has sold the sovereign of India at the mercy of foreign technology.

You have given examples of miserable deaths that couldn't be thwarted by 'scam money', I hate to be judgemental on someone's end, but tell me to what you'd ascribe the equally 'miserable' deaths of MK Gandhi, Abe Lincoln, JFK? or untimely deaths of spiritual leaders like Jesus Christ(crucified at 33), Vivekananda (was asthmatic, succumbed to brain hemorrhage at 39).
Before signing praises of Vajapyee, just remember what Subramanian Swamy thinks of him. Details of the scams/misgovernance of a ruler sees the daylight only after he loses the power. So hold your horses until Modiji/BJP replaced at the center. But, again there'll be allegations/counter allegations and nothing will be proved. That's how the cookie crumbles in politics. For politicians know very well that today's ruling party will be tomorrow's opposition, so scratch my back and I'll scratch yours.

Modiji promised our lost land of POK to bring back to India. The results one knows very well.

Under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, India won the war against Pakistan in 1971 and divided East Pakistan to a NEW Country called Bangladesh.

She paid the price for Indian Unity and you have no respect for her sacrifice. Your attitude is as lunatic, fanatic like terrorist, whose mind has been brainwashed. NO difference.

Under Rajiv Gandhi leadership, the Defence was modernized. Bofors guns acquired when Rajiv Gandhi as PM and V.P. Singh was the defense Minister. Bofors guns were used by Vajapayee's NDA govt. for Kargil war against Pakistan.

It was V.P. Singh who is one of the confidential person of Rajiv Gandhi back stabbed him and when he died, nobody knew about it because same time, 2008 Bombay attack took place by Pak. terrorist. He was cremated, just like a ordinary man and his end was very bad.

I do not want to mention any NDA/BJP retired leaders living condition. Wish and pray, they have good life.

The Gandhi family died due to the back stabbing and the backing of enemies within India, which is very much known factor.

Nobody knows tomorrow what is stored for you and me.
