Order to take NDTV India off air for a day put on hold

New Delhi, Nov 7 (PTI): The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has decided to "put on hold" the order to impose a one day ban on the Hindi channel NDTV India, after the broadcaster requested that the decision be reviewed.

Officials said that the decision has been put on hold till the time the appeal is disposed of. According to officials sources, NDTV co-chairman Prannoy Roy today met Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and discussed the issue related to the order.

Sources said that Roy, while referring to the decision of the Inter-Ministerial committee imposing the penalty, contended that the perspective of NDTV in this regard "was perhaps not fully and adequately appreciated".

"Roy sought a review of the decision and said that till such time the order should be put on hold," a senior official said.

Officials said that Naidu agreed to the request and the ministry will review the decision and till that time the order has been put on hold.

It is learnt that Naidu said that rule 6(1)(p) related to media coverage of anti-terror operations was incorporated last year after a seri es of advisories were issued to media organisations by the previous UPA government.

He said that violations of norms related to coverage of anti-terror operations had been noticed.

The I&B ministry had on November 2 ordered that Hindi channel NDTV India be taken off air for a day concluding that it had violated the guidelines in its coverage of the Pathankot terror attack.

Hahaha...Govt is scared and they know the reaction from the nation if they banned. After all only 31% people supports this nautanki BJP and now it might have reduced also. So they cannot face the protest from 69% people of this country. Still if they banned Supreme court will halt the ban.

present govt is not so cruel that when a co chairman comes to them begging not to ban the channel and still they take action. Something might have mutually agreed that's y even ndtv not claiming it as their victory.... anyway 70% supported permanent ban on this channel during online polls. This will impact heavily on ndtv commercial side as advertisers think this channel may get blocked any time.

The proposed ban has only enhanced NDTV's TRP and has made the people behind this Uturn drama look more foolish than what they actually are.

ARNAB GOSWAMY maybe seeking a governorship with BJP, like Kiran Bedi or RS membership like ZEE chairman, for their apolitical patronage to BJP, for political gains.

NDTV is far superior to TOI, in every aspect. All channels aired same footage, then why single out only one channel? BJP wants only chamchas, without any thinking or questioning ability. That is the only way they can move forward.

"Criticism from a government is a badge of honour"-These words were said by Raj Kamal Jha, Chief Editor-Indian Express when Modi was sharing the stage with him. Modi was literraly stumped.
NDTV literrally scrwed the UPA govt for its alleged scams.
But now almost all the media is under Modi's control except NDTV.
NDTV was fair in its Journalism no matter who is ruling the country.
