Pakistani troops violate LoC ceasefire again

Srinagar, Nov 7 (IANS): Pakistani troops violated the LoC ceasefire again on Monday, resorting to unprovoked shelling and firing at Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, police said.

"Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing at Indian positions on the LoC in Machil sector using 82 mm mortars and automatics," a police officer said here.

"Indian army has effectively retaliated. Intermittent shelling and firing exchanges are still going on in the area," the officer added.

Two soldiers were killed and three persons including a civilian and two soldiers injured in Pakistan shelling on the LoC in Poonch district on Sunday.

After the Indian army carried out surgical strikes against terror launching pads across the LoC on September 29, Pakistan troops have been frequently violating the ceasefire on the international border and the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.
