Udupi, Jan 8: As part of hernia care week Kasturba Medical College Hospital will be organizing a complete hernia care clinic from Tuesday January 8 to Monday 14.

According to a press release from the hospital the theme for the week is ‘Pain-free Societies.’ At the camp the patients can avail free consultation by specialists and treatment at lower rates. The aim of the clinic is to make people aware of hernia and its timely management before it could turn into a complication.

The release stated that hernia occurs when an internal organ bulges through a weak area of a muscle. Most of the hernias have symptoms apart from swelling, but to a few it causes mild discomfort. As it grows bigger the discomfort becomes more severe.

The treatment for hernia is a simple surgical procedure. If not treated there is a risk that an emergency surgical procedure may be required at a later stage, the release stated.
