World War II veterans honoured in the US

Washington, Nov 6 (IANS): A ceremony honouring the World War II veterans was held at the American and Chinese World War II Memorial Monument in front of the Monterey Park City Hall in Los Angeles.

As the annual Veteran Day (November 11) is coming next week, representatives of World War II veterans from American Legion Post 397, local officials and residents attended the event and gave speeches on Saturday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Representatives of the veteran called on people to avoid war and cherish peace. The event also honoured the 150th birth anniversary of Sun Yat-sen, forerunner of China's anti-feudalism revolution.

The commemoration also celebrated the sixth anniversary of the American and Chinese World War II Memorial Monument, which was the first of its kind dedicated to the American and Chinese armed forces and civilians who gave their lives during World War II to defend freedom and justice of the mankind against aggression.
