Modi govt bans NDTV India for a day over Pathankot reportage

New Delhi, Nov 4 (Agencies) : The government has ordered that the Hindi channel NDTV India be shut down for a day for allegedly revealing “strategically sensitive” details during its coverage of the Pathankot attacks in January.

The order follows the recommendation of an inter-ministerial committee instituted by the Information and Broadcasting ministry.

The I&B ministry, while invoking the powers under the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act, said it “orders to prohibit the transmission or re-transmission of NDTV India channel for one day on any platform throughout India with effect from 00:01 hrs on 9th November,2016 till 00:01 hrs of 10th November, 2016”.

This is the first time such an order has been issued against a TV channel over its coverage of a terror attack under norms which were notified last year. However, NDTV has the option to appeal the order before a tribunal.

The channel allegedly revealed “crucial information” during the operations that could have been picked by the terrorists’ handlers, compromising not only national security but also the lives of civilians and defence personnel, the committee alleged . The channel has claimed this was a case of “subjective information” and the information was in the public domain, reports said.

In a statement issued late Thursday night, NDTV described the order as an attack on media freedom:

“The order of the MIB has been received. It is shocking that NDTV has been singled out in this manner. Every channel and newspaper had similar coverage. In fact NDTV’s coverage was particularly balanced. After the dark days of the emergency when the press was fettered, it is extraordinary that NDTV is being proceeded against in this manner. NDTV is examining all options in this matter.”

The supports of bjp arr so blind that they support every act of them. You think NDTV does not know what to boardcasf and what not. They are the business from ages and this Govt found them guilty becoz lot many times they talk the truth . Guys supporting is good but not blindly. Trust me You also suffer when they ban things, may be banning a tv will not effect you, but there are lot of things which is yet to come, if you show these kind of support. You can't make things better then or take U turn. Be careful in supporting any party, all they care is how to rule over you and make money for themselves. They do not care about human feeling. Rightly said when ppl become old they want more power and money.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "invitation" to Pakistani JIT, which included an ISI official, amounted to giving a "clean chit" to the spy agency for the Pathankot attack and demanded that he tender an "apology" for the "monumental" foreign policy failure.

Apart from this Ramdev aide Ved Pratap Vaidik's had meeting with 9/11 terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

Why PM Modi's government had not called for any investigation so far in this matter?

Such meetings cannot take place without the knowledge of intelligent officials. Therefore a legitimate question arises, was PM Modi's government of India in the loop?"

Very good decision by The I&B ministry. Whole country has witnessed how they were broadcasting the position of our security forces (in the name of “FREEDOM OF SPEECH”) which was directly helping terrorists to take precautionary action and inflict more damage to our own security forces. Not only for one day, in future whenever counter terrorism operations takes place, this channel should be asked to shut down until operation gets over. If they are off, our security forces can finish the operation much faster than before without any harm at our end. Still there are supporters to this channel, we should just ignore them as Security of Nation is supreme duty of any Government.

Best solution to control media is to regulate them in democratic method.
Banning is not perhaps the right thing to do. But i agree to certain level that media is very much commercialized. Creates unnecessary hypes among the stories to manage TRP. Some time they makes stories from no stories. As long as they are not biased , we must welcome free media being domacratic country. I do watch ndtv regularly. They are far better than other well known channels at least the debates conducted by ndtv time to time are quite interesting and agenda probe discussions and conclusions in the program is well organized unlike other channels.
