Rahul, Sisodia detained amid high drama at RML

New Delhi, Nov 2 (PTI): Amid high drama, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia were today detained at the RML Hospital here after they tried to meet the family of an ex-serviceman who allegedly committed suicide over the OROP issue.

The Congress Vice President was not allowed to enter the premises of the Centre-run hospital. His repeated attempts were stonewalled by the heavy posse of security personnel, drawing angry reaction from the leader who lashed out at the Modi government.

Speaking to reporters, Rahul wondered whether democracy works in this fashion.

Senior police official MK Meena said they will not allow obstruction of health services.

"We will not allow any kind of politics inside hospitals in Delhi. Democracy does not mean obstruction of health services. Rahul Gandhi has been detained at the Mandir Marg police station," he said.

Earlier, Sisodia managed to enter the hospital premises and meet the family members of the deceased, before being detained by police.

Eyewitnesses said Sisodia could enter the premises as he came in a civilian car, which went undetected by the security.

A senior official of the hospital said the deceased, Ram Kishan Grewal, was "brought dead to the hospital at 1.45 AM last night".

"His body was sent for post-mortem to Lady Hardinge at 7.30 AM in the morning today," the official said.

Vehicular movement ouitside the hospital was thrown out of gear as Rahul's presence led to chaos.

Well loss of life is sad ... BUT if the soldier had issue with his pension remittances , he should have approached subsequent authorities to get revised ... committing suicide is cowardice . and is like running away from the problem... And to all Congress, Kejriwal ... where were they hiding till date when jawans are getting killed by Pakistani bullets... they were hiding in dark and moment an suicide by a soldier happens they all jump in to dance on the dead body of soldier to do politics .. SHAME ON CONGRESS AND KEJRIWAL ...

If there was OROP during previous govt. army wouldn't have fought 3 wars with Pakistan and 1 war with China and creation of Bangla Desh. No wonder BJP has no support from army and fooling people on surgical strikes. Aren't you getting fed up with fooling people?. May be you have not realized "You are fully exposed".

Kejriwal is a Curse on India, he does the Anarchy & Vulture Politics over Death and the rest of the Opposition follow him !!!!

Deep sympathies to the family of retd Subedar Grewal's family.

The big question, however, is can a retired army jawan who commits suicide on a personal issue be designated a martyr for political gains? The army trains its officers and men to act as per their head not as per their heart. Their actions couldn't be guided by their emotions. Suicide is a sign of weakness, not of strength, no matter what the cause is. By allegedly committing suicide retired Subedar Grewal has not done any pride to the uniform he once wore and to the force he once served.

He might have felt passionately for Orop and might have thought that Orop scheme offered by the Modi government was not as per his expectations. But there were two things that Grewal and Congress and AAP leaders queuing up to offer condolence and do politics over his death, should have considered. First, the Orop offered by the Modi government was a big leap forward on an issue, which had been pending since Independence. Second, the Orop issue is pending before Supreme Court. Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha member Ram Jethmalani had filed a petition in the apex court and the court had issued notices to the Union government seeking its response on the issue.

The government has a convenient alibi that till such time the matter is pending before the apex court, it can review the Orop, which in any case was offered only months ago. Subedar (retd) Grewal would surely have been informed about that by his colleagues and erstwhile seniors if he had ever taken up that issue with them.

Moreover, the place of suicide Jawahar Bhawan is also intriguing. Jawahar Bhawan houses Ministry of External Affairs and has nothing to do with the army unless Grewal had some other ideas. It is also not clear who was with him at the time he committed suicide. Was he all alone or someone was there with him? What was his state of mind?

A pending request to meet Defence Minister, as has been claimed in some quarters, surely can't be a cause to drive someone to take his own life. Not for an ex-army man at least.

Grewal's tragic death is a sad moment, a matter of concern but the politics around his dead body by Rahul and Kejriwal with obvious political motive can't be approved of.

This same Kejriwal and rahul gandhi are the same ppl who few days back were having no faith in army and asking for proof and now suddenly worried abt a soldier????do they think indian ppl so foolish? ????????
This issue of OROP has been there for years. why didn't congress party do something about it then? Atleast they could have done it in last 10 years during their time of ruling. Whatever they have not done for so many years and since the new Government has come, they are putting blame on the new Government. Atlease BJP has taken this issue and doing something about it.

This is not intolerance, but stupidity, to enter a hospital in such a fashion, only to score political point, hospitals or health centers are not there to score politics. Mr. Rahul Gandhi & Mr. Manish Sisodia's intention to visit hospital were politically motivated, Security personnel's of RML hospital have done the right thing.
