Ex-serviceman commits suicide at Jantar Mantar over OROP


New Delhi, Nov 2 (PTI): An ex-serviceman allegedly committed suicide over the issue of One Rank One Pension scheme (OROP) here, police said today.

The 70-year-old ex-serviceman Ram Kishan Grewal committed suicide by consuming poison at a park in New Delhi area yesterday evening.

Police said he along with some other ex-servicemen was in the process of submitting a memorandum to the Defence Ministry over the issue of OROP.

According to his friends, Grewal had been upset over the issue for sometime.

Ex-servicemen have been protesting over the OROP scheme introduced by the government.

    Another died for the fake schemes announced by chor party without even calculating its burden on economy. Still Modi govt has released over 5000 crores this year for OROP. Proper enquiry should be done as I feel AAP chor ministers behind this also. They r good in brain washing poor ppl

    Apart from the pension money they get free medical attention,cheap stuff (grocery)for household from the military canteen and also provide with 4 to 6 bottles of liquor of their choice with blenders pride just costing RS. 235 and 100 piper 456 and still they want more.

    One rank One pension is very bad system. By this there will be much more internal job politics, frauds and may be killings will happen. It will damage the honesty in the military.
    Instead govt should increase the pension for all category.
