Uneasy calm prevails along Jammu border

Jammu, Nov 2 (IANS): An uneasy calm prevailed on the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu on Wednesday, a day after eight civilians were killed and 24 injured in Pakistan targeting of civilian facilities.

Eerie silence ruled the villages close to the IB in Ramgarh, R.S. Pura, Hira Nagar and other sectors in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts during the night as guns fell silent on both sides.

Firing was also not reported from the LoC in Naushera sector of Rajouri district on Wednesday.

"There was no crossborder shelling or firing anywhere on the IB or the LoC during the night," police said.

While six civilians were killed in Ramgarh sector, two others were killed in Naushera in the indiscriminate targeting of civilians areas by Pakistani troops on Tuesday.

Border Security Force officials said on Tuesday that in a counter offensive, it destroyed all 14 outposts of Pakistan from where shelling and firing on civilian areas were carried out.
