Mangalore: ‘Tulunadina Muslimaru’ Book on Islam Released

Mangalore, Jan 4: Tulunadina Muslimaru (The Muslims of Tulumad), which speaks of the community spread over the undivided Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts, authored by Dr Wahab Doddamane, was released on Thursday, January 3, at Town Hall, in the city.

The book, as it was briefed by BA Mohammed Hanif, notary and advocate, speaks of the Muslim community in Tulunad, with special reference to the way it entered India and how it took deep roots in the nation, particularly in the Tulunadu (undivided Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts).

Writing or giving authentic account of the history seems not easy as perceived. Writing history deserves great labour, which the author has done. I realised when I was entrusted the work of writing the same on the Bunts community, Dr KR Shetty, former dean, KMC said after releasing the book on the occasion.

Resource persons who helped in bringing out the book in various ways were felicitated on the occasion. Prof Vasanth Madav, while acknowledging the felicitation said that Muslim population should not be portrayed in bad light and Dr CP Habeeb Rehman, managing director of Unity Health Complex, another awardee advised every one to read the book, as it gives authentic account on the history of the Islam since its entry into India.

Prof Amrut Someshwara, Prof UP Upadhyaya also spoke on the occasion.

BA Mohiuddin, former district-in-charge minister presided over the function. Ramanth Rai, former MLA, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, president of Kalkura Foundation and others were present on the occasion.
