Mangalore: Paradise Club to Organize Cricket Tournament

Mangalore, Jan 3: A five day’s eight-over under arm tennis ball floodlit cricket tournament, organized by Paradise Club, Krishnapur, comes under the jurisdiction of Suratkal, will be held from Wednesday, January 23 to Sunday, January 27, at Government Pre University College and Government Urdu School grounds, to mark the 30 th anniversary of the Paradise Cricket Club, informed BA Moideen Bava, president of the club to media persons, here at the press conference on Thursday January 3.  

The first prize consists of Rs 1 lac cash award and the runner up team would be entitled to Rs 50,555 cash award. The committee has been contemplating on declaring man of the match, man of the series and other awards. Two decisive semi finals and the final would be played on Sunday, January 27, which will be followed by a well known orchestra, he added.

Speaking on the entry fee, he announced that each participating team has to pay an entry fee of Rs 5 thousand and the organizing committee expects around 42 cricket teams to participate. Since it is a district level tournament of undivided Dakshina Kannada, the organizing committee's expectations would never be disproved.

The primary focus of organising the tournament will be to encourage the sports across the district, since under-arm cricket has been much patronized by the youth in the district, the organizing committee believes that it deserves to be encouraged, he informed.

The organizing committee projected a total expenditure of Rs 15 lacs for the tournament.  Moreover, it would accept the financial risk, owing to the genuine concern of committee to strengthen the sports across the district.
