Mangalore: MU to Introduce Insurance Economics

Mangalore, Jan 2: Economics Department in Mangalore University received an additional grant of Rs 19 lakh from University Grants Commission (UGC) to teach economics of Insurance in the university.

Mangalore University Registrar K Sundar Naik in a release stated that the additional grant was sanctioned under the innovative programme teaching and research in inter-disciplinary and emerging areas.

Professor in the Department of Economics and Dean of Faculty of Arts Prof G V Joshi had submitted a proposal to the UGC in New Delhi highlighting the generation of lucrative employment opportunities in insurance sector.

The UGC, considering the employment potential, cleared the proposal. Prof G V Joshi will be the co-ordinator of the programme and the subject will be introduced as a special paper. The release stated that the syllabus and training programme would be formulated in order to prepare students to the employment opportunities in the sector.
