Bangalore: Press Club Award Presented to Prof Nissar Ahmed

Bangalore, Jan 1: Press Club’s prestigious award function was held with great pomp and gaiety on Monday December 31.
 
The much-awaited prestigious award was presented to one of the eminent Kannada litterateur and poet of Nithyotsava fame Prof K S Nissar Ahmed, retired executive editor of Prajavani Sridhar Achar of Mangalore and Baburaj, retired senior photographer of Sanjevani. The awards were presented by union minister K H Muniyappa and former home minister M P Prakash.

The diary of the press club ‘Diary 2008’ was released by M P Prakash on the occasion after presenting the awards.

After releasing the diary he recalled the contribution of Prof Nissar Ahmed to the literary field. “Prof Ahmed is a man of all years, not just this year’, he said.


Speaking on the occasion Prof Nissar Ahmed he said that the role of press was vital in the development of the society. Journalists should work through their writings for the progress of the country.

Further Prof Nissar said that his works would not have received such recognition, if the medium had not been in Kannada. “I am honoured to be a Kannada poet,” he added.

Film actress Ramya, film actor Chethan, industrialist Yananarayana Kammaje, Press Cub president and Prajavani news editor E V Sathyanarayana, Club general secretary and Sanajevani chief  reporter B P Mallappa, vice-president photographer Venkatesh, secretary Sashiprabha Hiremutt, treasurer Rizwan and executive committee members Nagesh Polali, Gudihalli Nagraj, Ramanujam, Manjunath Hade and Alfred were present on the occasion.
