Man shot after attacking police in Indonesia


Jakarta, Oct 20 (IANS): A man was shot on Thursday after he attacked police in Indonesia with knives and pipe bombs, injuring five, officials said.

The incident took place in Banten province's Tangerang city, Xinhua news agency reported.

The attack occurred when the assailant Sultan Azianzah, 22, was found sticking an Islamic State (IS) terror group sticker in a police station.

According to TV reports, Sultan attacked the police when they attempted to stop and arrest him.

"The perpetrator was shot in his feet and is now being treated at a police hospital," an official said.

Police found two pipes containing explosives in the attack scene.

Head of Information Division at Indonesia Police headquarters Boy Rafly Amar said that the attacker was suspected to be a member of the terrorist group.
