Congress Leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi likely to join BJP ahead of UP polls

Lucknow, Oct 17 (News 18) : Congress may face further desertions in its ranks ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections with former state president and MLA Rita Bahuguna Joshi likely to join Bharatiya Janata Party.

Sources close to her said Joshi is upset with the party for having projected an "outsider" in Sheila Dikshit as CM candidate.

Joshi had led the party in the last assembly polls in the state in which Congress came a poor fourth.

State BJP leaders when contacted said a final call on this has to be taken by the party's central leadership.

A top source in the Congress said, "We have no indication of her joining the BJP, but we will speak to her. She is a senior leader."

Elections to the state assembly are to be held early next year, and Congress has this time around projected former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit, another Brahmin leader, as CM candidate.

Joshi who is an MLA from Lucknow Cantt seat would have faced a tough electoral battle this time around. She is up against SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's younger daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav. Lucknow Cantt is an urban seat and Joshi had wrested it from BJP in 2012.
Bahuguna's brother and former Uttarakhand CM Vijay Bahuguna had earlier this year defected from the Congress with nine MLAs in the hill state which led to the imposition of president's rule there.

Up against a formidable opposition, Joshi it was said was looking for options outside Congress.

Daughter of former Congress stalwart and UP CM Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, Rita joined active politics when she was nominated by SP as its mayor candidate from Allahabad. She won that election but later quit SP to join Congress.

BJP in its efforts to mobilise upper caste votes in UP has been weaning away leaders from other parties. Last month BSP leader and former MP Brijesh Pathak joined the party.

Mayawati: They (BJP) are depending on the `rejected maal' of the BSP and other parties."
They are trying to cash on leaders who were either rejected by us (BSP) or were shown the exit door.

Sheila Dixit is a aging aged old leader. Congress had Raj Babbar,Rita Bahuguna,Priyanka Gandhi(???) and many more able candidates. Congress must have fielded dixit to self defeat itself in up or to keep her away from Delhi. Congress looks like has accepted defeat by projecting Dixit as CM even before facing elections. If Congress wants to have reasonable chance they must project Raj Babbar whos MP from UP. Dixit did not grow from UP. MOst Of the time she spent in Delhi and has little knowledge of UP ongoings and moreover aged person. Raj Babbar knows in and out Of UP.Congress will be routed out in UP unless it projects Babbar as candidate for CM . Unless this is done Babaar May Also get upset and may follow the path of Bahuguna and may step in to SP/BSP/BJP several prospective parties are there.why will he buy a dead dog?

Rahul Gandhis UP yatra earned him more opposition that support. He never spoke of Cong plans, agenda, never thought of any revival strategies, rather attacked PM in each and every speech of his. More over the comment 'Aloo ka factory' too did not go well with people. They just deserted his events. In one place he had to cancel his speech as there were only 150 people. Come on let us accept the fact.

Jossey, please come in terms with reality, Cong is losing 'state after state' and leaders are deserting every now and then. Its not a good sign at all!. Time to pull our socks and think of revival strategies rather than blame each and every time. Just think in a nut shell what has RGs UP yatra done for Cong?

I am very happy this lady Rita Bahuguna Joshi is leaving Congress because of the simple reason, she is not grass root level worker nor she can pull the crowd. Very arrogant in her approach.

It will benefit Congress, but may dent little bit bramin vote. The question is how much she has influence on bramin UP vote share is the big question.

Every one in Congress shouts to get noticed from the "High Command", as the party has "no vision" after 15th Aug 1947...

In spite of MKG's advise, The party continued only for selfish gains. The only principle to be followed in that party is to praise duplicate Gandhis and do their slavery...

Even if joins BJP, she is a burden for BJP rather advantages
