Omar Abdullah subjected to secondary immigration check in US

New York, Oct 17(PTI): Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had to spend two hours at the airport upon his arrival here as US authorities subjected him to "random secondary immigration check".

However, 46-year-old Omar took it sportingly and said that this happens every time he visited the US. He also said the random checks are growing "tiresome now".

In a series of tweets from the airport, Omar said that he was subjected to another "random" secondary immigration check upon landing in the US.

"Thrice in three visits, the randomness is growing tiresome now," he said. "I just spent TWO hours in a holding area and this happens EVERY time. Unlike @iamsrk I don't even catch Pokemon to pass the time," he said.

Omar is in New York to speak at an event organised by the students at the New York University.

He tweeted "I'm here to speak at an event organised by NYU but I almost wish I'd stayed at home instead. Ah well, that's two hours well & truly wasted!!"

Nothing special here, just follow the local government immigration regulations while in international travel. Random is Random, no one is aimed at...

In 2014 December, Visitors could apply for upon arrival visiting visa, here in New York. I filled out online application, got approval number for two and half year aged US citizen child. Upon arrival in India, the immigration cited some technicality issues in newly formed website and the new contractor (website was about three weeks). We were pulled out of arrival immigration line at the airport, and had to wait 4 hours 30 minutes to get one week clearance for a two and half year aged US citizen accompanied by both Indian citizen parents. Thereafter, I had to visit local SP office to extend this visiting visa. I was excited of new system, but new system had many glitches. Even Indian immigration officer agreed they had other applicants who had faced similler technical issues like me. I could have walked to Indian consulate here in New York and obtain visiting visa easily. Trusting new system did not help me. After a travel of about twenty hours journey to India. my two and half year child was detained by Indian immigration for four and half hours, only to find out their efficiency was substandard. I followed their directives and did not complain...

This incident shows these so called VVIPs how much they worth out side India. When in India these people bark on intolerance, now let them see how the real world treat them. We India's still tolerate them. Any person organization favors or has soft-corner towards Pakistan, they are entitled for spacial treatment in US/ Europe/ NZ/ Aus etc.
