M'lore: Winners of Konkani Partner Dance at ‘Konkani Bazaar’

Mangalore, Dec 27: The inauguration of ‘Konkani Bazaar’ organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at Infant Jesus pilgrimage centre, located at Carmel Hill, Bikarnakatte, in the city, on Tuesday, December 22 was held at 10 – 00 a m.  It was inaugurated by Fr Alexander F D’Souza, ex-president of Karnatka Konkani Sahitya Academy.  Fr Joe Tauro, superior of Carmel Congregation was the chief guest, present at the occasion.  Eric Ozario, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, presided over the programme.  S H Shivarudrappa, registrar of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, proposed vote of thanks.  Vitori Karkal, Academy member, compered the programme.  ‘Konkani Bazaar’ was held from Tuesday, December 20 to Monday, December 24.  As a special attraction of ‘Konkani Bazaar’ partner-dance competitions were held in the evenings, with a view to nurture Konkani culture among the Konkani folks.   The prizes are announced in each category.

Primary division:

Jnana Aithal and Raksha Pai, students of Canara Primary School, Urwa, bagged the first prizes while Ashel Sequeira and Andrea D’Souza, students of St Agnes English Medium School, secured second prizes.  Angelina Glanita D’Souza and Vaishav, students of Nithyadar Primary School, Thokkottu, secured the third prizes.

Higher-Primary division:

Pallavi Prabhu and Medha Bhide, students of Canara Primary School, Urwa, bagged the first prizes while Cheryl M Veigas and Melba Pinto, the students of Lady Hill English Medium Higher Primary School, bagged the second prizes.  Ashwith Joel D’Souza and Manisha Andrea D’Souza, secured the third prizes.

High-School division:

Ashmi and Rashmi Peris, students of St Agnes English Medium High School, Bendore, bagged the first prize while Joslyn Mascarenhas and Aileen Goveas, students of St Agnes English Medium High School, Bendore and Sharada Vidhyalaya, Kodialbail, respectively, secured the second prizes.  Sonal Veigas and Debora Crasta, students of Lady Hill Girls High School, Urwa, bagged the third prizes.

The cash award of Rs 1,000, Rs 751 and Rs 501 and equivalent of books published by Academy were distributed to the winners of first, second and third prizes, respectively.  Sweety and Anil were the jurors, present at the occasion.  Eric Ozario, president of Academy and S H Shivarudrappa, registrar of Academy, presented the prizes.

Vitori Karkal and Stany Alvares compered the programme.
