Mangalore: Yakshagana Festival to Begin from Dec 27

Mangalore, Dec 26: The south zonal chapter of department of culture, government of India, in association with department of Kannada and Culture and Kalkura Foundation will organize 'Yakshagana Utsava' from Thursday December 27.

The event will be inaugurated by veteran Yakshagana artiste Kumble Sunder Rao. Tulu Sahitya Academy president M K Seetaram Kulal will preside over the inaugural ceremony. The chief guests will be Lakshminarayana Asranna Kateel, Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor, Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario and others.

Noted Yakshagana artistes from Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Kasaragod and Udupi districts will take part in the event.

On December 27, there will be performances by Sharat Kumar Kadri and troupe and also by Ambalpadi Sri Lakshmi Janardhan Yakshagana Mandali.

Performances by D Bhujala and troupe, Dharmasthala, and Honnaver Sri Veeranjaneya Yakshmitra Mandali will be held on Friday December 28.

On Saturday December 29, Kondadakuli Purnachandra Yakshagana Mandali and Kota Yakshamitra will perform.

The valedictory ceremony will be presided over by district Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura. Veteran Yakshagana artistes Dr Ramanand Banari, Dr M Prabhakar Joshi  and others are expected to be present.
