Udupi: Sandhya Pai Conferred with Media Academy Award

Udupi, Dec 22:
Sandhya Pai, executive editor of the popular ‘Taranga’ weekly magazine, was conferred with the Media Academy Award (MAA) for the year 2006 at a simple ceremony at the Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore recently.

I M Vittalamurthy, secretary of information and tourism department presented her the prestigious award. In his speech Vittalamurthy while lauding the achievements of the editor informed that after Sandhya Pai took charge of the administration of ‘Taranga’ weekly, Kannada journalism received a big boost due to her huge contribution. The weekly tackles wide variety of topics giving a complete package to its readers, he added. Moreover, he even appreciated her foray into the television arena, by saying Sandhya Pai has achieved a lot in the field of television media by producing good serials.

In her acceptance speech, Sandhya Pai after receiving the said award stated that although 60 years has passed by since the country attained its independence, there are several problems which have not yet been solved. Therefore, she exhorted the media to work hard to highlight these issues and problems, and help people in solving them, she added.

Also present on the occasion were MAA’s president V N Subbrao, secretary H B Dinesh and officers from the information department amongst others.
