Mangalore: C F C to Host ‘Rajiv Gandhi Souharda Cup -'08

Mangalore, Dec 21: Challenger Friends Circle (CFC), Suralpady, in association with Gurpur Block Youth Congress will organize ‘Rajiv Gandhi Souharda Cup’08’ at Alva's Grounds, Narlapadavu from Friday January 4 to Sunday January 6, in the leadership of B Ramanath Rai, president, DK district Congress Committee, said Vishwas Das of Youth Congress, here at the press conference on Friday December 21. 

The prime concern is to infuse the spirit of sports and ideals of late Rajiv Gandhi, former prime minister among the youngsters, he delineated.   

The tournament would be the 8-over over-arm flood-lit cricket tournament.

The response from various teams is overwhelming, though the organizing committee of the tournament has limited the number of participating teams to 25.  But the total number of teams registered so far is 30.

The first prize consists of ‘Rajiv Gandhi Souharda Cup’08’ along with cash award of Rs 60,000 and the runners-up would be awarded cash award of Rs 30,000 along with ‘Rajiv Gandhi Souharda Cup’08’. Man of the match and other individual prizes will also be awarded to the respective teams, he stated. 

The entrance fee has been fixed to Rs 5,000 for each team out of which the team has to pay Rs 2,000 in advance.  

Abdul Khader, Zakir and Haneef of organizing committee were present at the press conference.
