K'pur: Inter-collegiate Music Competition held at Bhandarkar’s

Kundapur, Dec 14: Bhanarkar’s day was celebrated at Bhandarkar’s college premises here recently. As a part of celebration an inter-collegiate music competition was held.

Brahmawar SMS College scored the highest marks and bagged the rolling trophy named after the founder of the College Dr A S Bhandarkar. Nearly 19 colleges affiliated to the Mangalore University took part in the competition and nearly 250 students competed in these events.

Radha Karantha, Vasanthi Acharya, Sudha Markod, Ramananda Rao, Raveendra Aithal and Bhagirathy were the judges on the occasion.

Veena Nayak of Bhandarkar’s College secured first place, Vasanthi of Government College, Byndoor secured second and Pooja Udupa of MGM College, Udupi got the third place in the classical music competition.

In dasara keerthane competition held Shrithi Bhat of Vidyadaya College, Udupi secured first, Prajna Udupa from MGM College, Udupi secured second and Dhanyashri Halambi of MGM College, Udupi secured third place.

Vasanthi of Government College, Byndoor secured first place, Varadaraj from JCBM College, Shringeri got second place and Rajesh Kamath of Bhandarkar’s College secured third place in instrumental classical music.

Under Lyrics category, Karthik of Bhandarkar’s PU College secured first, Manjushri from Bhvanendra PU College, Karkala got second and Nagaraja Aithal of SMS College, Brahmavar got third place.

In the category of folk songs, Kavyashri from Mahaveera College, Moodbidri got first, Shravan of MGM PU College secured second and Poornima Putran from SMS College, Brahmavar secured third.

Group Songs:
Poornima and group from SMS Brahmavar secured first, Shubha Adiga and group from Bhuvanendra secured second and Ambika and group from Bhandarkar’s College secured third in group singing.

Prof S Narayana Rao, principal of the College distributed the prizes and congratulated the winners. Prof Chandra Shaker Dhoma, ex-principal of the College was present. Prof Kuk Aithal welcomed the gathering and proposed the vote of thanks.
