Mangalore: Austrian Injured in Rickshaw-Lorry Collision

Mangalore Dec 12: A ghastly accident took place at about 11 pm within the city limits near called Nagori, when an autorickshaw coming from Kankanady railway station and traversing towards the city was hit head-on by a lorry which speeding towards B C Road.  

According to informed sources, the autorickshaw driver Sujith belonging to Pandit House in Thokkottu, had picked up an Austrian tourist named Hannes Grundnig from the Kankanady railway station. The Austrian had come down from Cochin and was onward bound to Goa after passing through Mangalore city.  

The accident happened when the speeding mini lorry hit the autorickshaw head-on, when it was in-fact on the wrong side, informed sources here. After doing this dastardly act, the mini-lorry fled from the scene. The impact of the crash was so harsh that the condition of the driver Sujith is stated to be serious, while his passenger, the Austrian tourist Hannes was lucky enough to escape with some minor injuries sustained on his head and legs. Both of them were immediately rushed to the Omega hospital for medical treatment.  

A case of hit-n-run accident has been registered at the local police station.
