Udupi, Dec 11: The local policemen have arrested a person accused of stealing mobile handsets by hoodwinking the people and have recovered 8 mobile sets and 5 Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards from him.

He was nabbed by the night patrol police personnel in the wee hours on Sunday December 9.  The police spotted a youth riding a motor cycle who did not heed to their signs to halt at near Padubidri bus stand, on National Highway (NH) 17.  However, after a long chase he was arrested by the police. 

He was identified as Pradeep (26), son of Damodar Acharya a resident of Kilpady village in the limits of Mulky.  The policemen recovered 8 mobile sets and 5 SIM cards from him.

He was known to cheat his own friends and steal their mobile handsets.  Moreover, he was hoodwinking the unwary passengers who were waiting at the bus stop, by his smooth talk and once they are busy talking, he used to speed away with their mobile phones. He seems to have mastered this trick from a popular serial telecast by a Kannada channel.  

Moreover, the initial investigations revealed that he was also involved in cheating on purchasing a car in Kumara Mangala area, recently.  Navinchandra Jogi, sub-inspector of Padubidri has produced the accused, Pradeep, in the district court,here on Monday December 10.
