Udupi / Padubidri, Dec 9: The vice president of local, Abbedy Gram Panchayat (GP), along with other members posed hindrance to the construction works of building barrier wall encroaching upon the storm water drains, erected by local GP under its jurisdiction by Suzlon Energy.

The GP vice president, Mithun Hegde, had received a threatening call from an anonymous caller a week ago, stating that Suzlon would be planning to build a barrier wall in their locality and urged him to stay the works otherwise he would inform the media persons. However, despite the pleas of Hegde, the officers of Suzlon continued the work uninterrupted.

The aggrieved Hegde arrived at the disputed site along with GP secretary and other members, and once again pleaded with the officers to build the barrier wall without encroaching upon the storm water drains.  Ashok Shetty, Suzlon officer, stated that they were building the barrier wall within their acquired land. A heated argument followed for some time.  However, it was the turn of Suzon to soften their stand and in the face of pressure from natives they consented to build the barrier wall without encroaching upon the storm water drains.
