Army, naval and air force personnel are true heroes and in many countries they hold the pride of place. Sadly, in India we remember our service personnel only during wars, crisis and calamities and thereafter we lose our euphoria and conveniently forget them.

Inauguration of a war memorial in memory of soliders near Udupi is a right thing and a tribute to these great men who always put their lives on the block and in return earn or get a pittance. Indian Defence Forces are the highly professional body amongst all our Government Departments and Bodies and everything should be done to keep them that way.

We have to give preferential treatment to all our servicemen, whether active or retired, and accord them all privileges even by pruning the excessive and unproductive employees in the public sector.
