Mangalore: ‘Treat Dalits without any Discrimination’

Mangalore, Dec 7: Treat Dalits without any discrimination. They do not require sympathy, all they need is formal or informal education, so that they can enter the mainstream of the society, said Prof P Selvidas, former vice-chancellor, Mysore University.

She was speaking after inaugurating UGC Centre for study of social exclusion and inclusive policy at Mangalore University.

She further said that she said that social exclusion includes social, cultural, educational and economical discrimination. Most of the families living below the poverty line are not exposed to education, she informed and added that the need of the hour is to make them economically strong.

Those families which are socially excluded should be provided with social security which provides education, she said. This will help the economically backward society to enter the mainstream of the society, she added.

Prof B Hanumaiah, vice-chancellor, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Central University said that when the fellow being is not treated properly in the society there is no point in talking about higher education and nuclear deal.

Prof Vishwanath, director of the Centre, Prof K M Kaveriappa, vice-chancellor, Mangalore University and Dr Sundar Naik, registrar (administration) were present on the occasion.
