Mangalore, Nov 23: Derogatory statements by inspector Vinay Gaonkar on Mahatma Gandhi have landed him in a spot of botheration.

The inspector, attached to Bunder police station, is said to have made abusive statements while a group of students approached DySP Dharmaiah seeking a no-objection certificate for a temporary power connection at the site where students and P V Mohan were staging a protest demanding passenger train services between Mangalore and Bangalore.

According to the complaint, submitted by the Mangalore Railway Development Action Committee (MRDAC) member and student of Aloysius College, Suparaj Malli to IGP (Western Range) A M Prasad, Vinay Gaonkar barged in and mocked the protesters while the DySP was complying with the request.

The complaint stated that the inspector asked the protesters to stage satyagraha in their respective homes with a kerosene lamp by their side. He also asked them to stage Satyagraha like Mahatma Gandhi by wearing a loin cloth.

Gaonkar turned his ire at the agitators and said that the people who were demanding electricity now might ask for AC facility  in the coming days.

He also asked them to stage a protest in New Delhi if they needed a train facility. He also threatened them by saying that they would have to face dire consequences if they did not return to their homes.
