PM Modi chairs high-level meet on Kashmir

New Delhi, Jul 12 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today chaired a high-level meeting on the situation in Kashmir Valley which has been rocked by violent protests in the wake of the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani.

Back from a visit to four African countries, Modi convened a meeting of Union Ministers and senior officials. The Prime Minister was given a detailed presentation of the situation prevailing in the Valley which has witnessed escalating protests following the killing of Wani on Friday. Violent clashes between security forces and protestors have so far left 24 dead.

The meeting was attended by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Minister of State for PMO Jitendra Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar among others.

Yesterday, Parrikar, Jaitley and Doval, who returned a day earlier from Africa where he was accompanying the Prime Minister, had met to discuss the situation.

The Ministers were briefed by Chiefs of central security agencies about the steps taken to bring back peace and normalcy in the Valley. All forces have been asked to ensure security of Amarnath pilgrims and enhance vigil along the border to check fresh attempts of infiltration from across the border.

Sources said security forces were asked to ensure judicious use of force against protesting civilians.

Parrikar had told reporters that an overall assessment of security situation in Kashmir has to be done by the Home Ministry and Army was ready to provide any assistance like increasing force levels in any areas required.

Earlier, the Home Minister had reached out to opposition leaders including Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Parliamentary leaders of all parties, and discussed the prevailing situation there.

During the telephonic conversation with Gandhi and National Conference leader Omar, the Home Minister had discussed with them efforts to bring back peace and normalcy in Kashmir Valley.

India has made Kashmir slip out of her hand ...You think Kashmiris will love you by using excess force...the reason behind Kashmiris found hero like wani is for the same reason ....
We implemented one of the worst military tool AFSPA and restricted their freedom and harass them in the name of it and we expect Kashmiris to love our country...
And it is equally appalling to see some of our journalist and sanghis on other side rejoicing death of Kashmiris speaking of nuking ,massacring and mocking ...Would you think Kashmiris will like to be with people like this...
The difference between earlier uprising and present is ...most of them is led by youngsters who are educated and driven by social media...

Indian sub continent always divided in to many princely States based on regions, languages cultures and cast system. Not a single Hindu ruler was able to unite and rule India. Only in modern Indian history Mogul muslims & British were skillfully able to unite and govern most of Indian sub continent. With force of gun, Military power, restriction of movement, fake and false speech India or Pakistan can not retain these culturally, regionally & religiously diverse states together. Only way India or Pakistan can retain individual states with peace, equality, equal justice and brother hood. Withdraw armed forces and send real monks to preach peace and brotherhood to Kashmir, Punjab, Somalia and Tamil nadu etc,. win the hearts of people not the territory.

The Kashmir issue itself is a product of mismanagement by incompetent Congress. First accept that before pointing fingers towards others.

This Govt has given free had to security forces to kill the terrorists.

If it was congress, the security forces wouldn’t have got permission to kill this terrorist in the name of “minority appeasement”.

They celebrate whenever there is a sabotage or terrorist act is carried out on innocent people.

Modiji has to act with iron fist to deal with those who take India's security and integrity for granted. PAK was our enemy, they are and will never come to terms with India. Answer is not by shaking hands or a hug. Time to stand firm and united against the terrorist states. There are undisclosed feeler and supporters of terrorism with in India.
